London is a large city & the capital of england.
Even though many people exEect all the people of london to be cheerful cockney characters straight out of Dickens, nothing could be less true. in actual fact, London is a diverse place that boasts residents of all nationalities and religions. as a result, it’s estimated that more than three hundred different languages are used in the city.
London has an interesting history that goes back over 2,000 years. along this time, the city has expanded to become one of the financial and cultural capitals of the world. its also suffered from the plague, devastating fire, civil war, & terrorism.
London suffered particularly along the second world war. It suffered bad damage from bombs along this time & 100s of 1000s of kids in the city were evacuated out to the country side to avoid the bombs. The most severe bombing occured between 7 September 1940 & 10 May 1941.
London is renowned for its wonderful museums and art galleries. One of the most well-known museums is the v and a, which was built in 1852. it’s the world’s biggest museum of decorative arts and design with a permanent collection of over 4 1/2 million pieces. these days, the museum covers a huge 12.5 acres and 145 galleries. it’s a big tourist attraction and, in 2006, it had 2,400,000 visitors.
London has some of the perfect stores in the world. Whether you are looking for designer fashion, souvenirs or tasty food, you are sure to find the activities you want here.
One of the city’s most well known stores is harrods, which is in knightsbridge. This department store is one of the world’s most famous and was established in 1834. now run by Mohamed Al Fayed, it employs over five thousand people and has many designer concessions.
London has a vast range of things to do after dark, which contain exclusive wine bars, nightclubs & theatres.
London’s theatres cater to every funds & taste. From cheap eats like Pizza Express, Pizza Hut & Bella Italia, to high end theatres, you will be spoilt for choice. The city also has a vast range of Michelin starred theatres, including Tom Aikens, Umu & Gordon Ramsay at Claridges, although you will have to book far in advance for a table at one of these locations.
As it is such a enormous place, London is really easy to get to. in actual fact, it is well connected by rail and boasts some big railway stations, which contain London Bridge, London Victoria, London Euston and Liverpool street. in addition to this, the city also boasts three big airports, Heathrow; Stanstead and Luton.
Driving in London can be hard due to the congestion charge, however the city boasts a marvellous underground and bus network to help people get about.
